Attended croquis sketch sessions twice recently. It's damn hard and unnerving to sketch from life with people around.
I think I'll attempt more work without reference, as I'm getting a bit sick of drawing from random photos all the time and it's often distancing to glance up and down between reference and drawing. One idea I've had is to study a specific subject in great detail and then try to draw him/her (most definitely her) in various situations and poses from imagination.
There's still much struggle with endurance and motivation. I often do one or two quick sketches and then feel content and not interested in drawing more in that session. At least some of it is out of fear of failure and "ruining pages", but there's something else too... I think. Would be great if I could just happily sit down and draw for hours. I'm hoping it'll help to try different approaches, like the one mentioned above.
I would also like to practise hair a bit more. I've dabbled here and there, but usually settle for a loose scribble. Great detailed hair can lift a drawing from "sort of nice" to "woah!!". One thing I've noticed with many things is that the best results come when you overshoot and focus on something "beyond" the main task. Like for instance I might do a much better job at drawing a face if my main focus for that drawing was the hair, so I'd just "get the face done" for the purpose of getting to the hair. Obsessing with the particular task you're occupied with often detracts from the relaxed flow you need to produce good shit.

ravenshield: I'll definitely be posting some more, I still haven't produced anything I'm 100% pleased with. Will try to make something a bit more polished too and not just doodles.
